A man has been charged with the brutal murder of his girlfriend's former partner following a week-long manhunt, police have said.

A 22-year-old man was arrested on Christmas Eve, while an 18-year-old has been charged with the murders after he helped police link them, police confirmed.

A 23-year-old woman was originally from Melbourne but Australia and South America have blocked her entry to the country for breaching Australia's entry requirements, police told the ABC.

They said she was granted political asylum in the country, but could not be due for an Australian citizenship renewal process at present because of the ongoing manhunt for the perpetrator.

Mr Nighquen has attended every Queensland Police Federation meeting in recent months, police confirmed.

Dickson, from Barwon, Brisbane, was originally born in Adelaide, but has lived in Australia for 10 years, the family told news.com.au.
